You need a National Police Clearance Certificate

Criminal Records Checks:

The Australian Federal Police in Canberra (http://www.afp.gov.au
) can issue a National Police Clearance Certificate that covers criminal records in all states and territories, except Queensland. The AFP has advised that this certificate is acceptable in all countries. The certificate must then be certified with an Apostille. AFP website http://www.afp.gov.au/business/national_police_checks#crim

The cerificate is accepted by Korean Immigration for up to 6 months, so we strongly recommend that you get started on it right away.

Apostille Procedures:

Countries that are party to the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents require an Apostille on documents which qualify as Australian public documents. A full list of countries that are party to this convention can be found at the Hague Conference on Private International Law website: http://www.hcch.net/index_en.php?act=conventions.status&cid=41

* For an E2 teaching visa (Korea), only a criminal background check needs to be authenticated with an apostille.

You can have the Apostille Australia Certificate Service certify your document for $200 AUD, although we recommend doing it yourself through one of the offices we have listed at the bottom of the page to save you money (you save $140 AUD!)

What you need to do:

Bring the ORIGINAL criminal background check to the apostille of the state you are in. It can also be couriered to the office with a money order, certified cheque, or paid by credit card. If paying by cheque or money order, be sure to make the cheque out to the appropriate office. If paying by credit card, you must request a credit card authorisation form by email. Contact information for all apostille locations are listed below, along with processing fees.

  • They will process the document and send it back to you. The cost of returning your document by ordinary post is included in the fee. You must include a self-addressed, Registered or Express Post envelope if you would like your document to be returned to you sooner. Please keep in mind that the apostille takes 2-3 business days to complete plus mailing time.

* If you are currently in a country other than your own, please include extra payment for return of your documents by EMS Courier (DHL or FedEx):

  • New Zealand $27 AUD
  • Asia Pacific Region $31.05 AUD
  • United States/Canada/Middle East $33.75 AUD
  • Anywhere else $35.55 AUD

You must include a contact telephone number and email address.
